This Web-based eLearning program provides the cognitive portion (Part 1) of the Heartsaver First Aid course. Covers all required sequences and includes an online First Aid online course and American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid exam. Course participants who successfully complete Part 1 receive a certificate granting them entrance to a skills testing session with an American Heart Association instructor at When Seconds Count, Inc. An AHA course completion card will be issued by When Seconds Count, Inc. which is an AHA training center when both parts are successfully completed.
After successfully completing this course, students should be able to:
· List the priorities, roles, and responsibilities of the first aid rescuer
· Describe the key steps in first aid
· Remove protective gloves
· Find the problem
· Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: heart attack, difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, and stroke
· Use an epinephrine pen
· Control bleeding and bandaging
· Recognize elements of common injuries
· Recognize elements of common illnesses
· Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury
· Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers
